Vintage Tarot Español — Spanish Edition
A beautifully produced Spanish-language tarot deck that reimagines the classic Rider-Waite-Smith system in a warm, aged vintage illustration style — the Vintage Tarot Español is a 78-card deck printed on cream-toned card stock with a deliberately antiqued, hand-drawn quality that makes every card feel like a page from a century-old tarot manuscript. All card names are in Spanish, making this an ideal deck for Spanish-speaking readers and collectors of international tarot editions.
The artwork is rendered in a distinctive vintage engraving style — fine crosshatched line art with flat watercolour fills in warm terracottas, dusty blues, sage greens, and golden yellows on an aged cream ground — faithful to the RWS symbolism while giving every card a timeworn, antique quality. The Major Arcana are magnificent. III La Emperatriz is a crowned queen in a floral gown, seated on a cushioned throne in a garden, a Venus shield at her side — lush and regal. IV El Emperador is a bearded king in red and orange robes on a stone throne, ram-head armrests, sceptre in hand — commanding and authoritative. V El Sumo Sacerdote (The Hierophant) is a magnificent Egyptian-style high priest in an elaborate golden headdress and layered robes, seated between two pillars, one hand raised in blessing — one of the most striking Hierophant cards in any RWS-based deck. I El Mago (The Magician) is a young figure in white robes with an infinity symbol above his head, one arm raised with a wand, the four suit tools on the table before him. IX El Ermitaño (The Hermit) is a tall robed figure on a snowy mountain, lantern raised, staff in hand — rendered in cool blue-grey tones. VIII La Fuerza (Strength) is a woman in a white gown with an infinity symbol above her head, gently opening the jaws of a golden lion — calm and powerful.
The second set of six Major Arcana is equally striking. XVIII La Luna (The Moon) is a vast crescent moon face in profile against a blue sky, a dog and wolf howling below, a crayfish emerging from a pool, two towers in the distance — eerie and atmospheric. XVI La Torre (The Tower) is a dramatic black-ground card — a tall stone tower struck by a golden lightning bolt, two figures falling from its battlements, flames and debris in the air — one of the most dramatic Tower cards in tarot. XIV La Templanza (Temperance) is a magnificent winged angel in a grey robe with a triangle symbol on the chest, pouring liquid between two golden cups, one foot on land and one in water, a radiant sun halo behind the head. XIII La Muerte (Death) is a skeleton knight in black armour on a white horse, carrying a black flag with a white rose, figures fallen before him. XII El Colgado (The Hanged Man) is a figure in blue trousers and a red shirt, suspended upside down from a wooden T-cross by one ankle, a radiant halo around the head. XI La Justicia (Justice) is a crowned queen in red and gold robes, seated on a throne between two pillars, holding golden scales and a sword.
The Minor Arcana are equally faithful to the RWS tradition. X La Rueda de Fortuna (Wheel of Fortune) is a magnificent golden wheel in the clouds, a blue sphinx with a sword seated at the top, a serpent descending on the left, an Anubis-like figure ascending on the right, the four fixed signs — winged angel, eagle, winged bull, and winged lion — reading books in the four corners. VI de Espadas (Six of Swords) is a ferryman poling a boat across calm water, a cloaked figure and a child seated among six upright swords, distant shores ahead.
The card backs are a striking dense black and white repeating pattern — interlocking birds, flowers, and botanical forms in a tile-like design — bold, graphic, and fully reversible. The box is a warm aged parchment design — cream and gold with a dashed border, a golden sun disc, three gold six-pointed stars, and a gold laurel sprig at the base, with Vintage Tarot Español in gold serif type on the top panel (printed upside down on the box top, as is traditional for tuck boxes).
