The Healing Waves Tarot is a breathtakingly original 78-card tarot deck by Thai artist Nawan Junhasiri — a deck that reimagines the entire tarot system through the lens of the ocean, its creatures, and the healing power of water. Every card is a luminous watercolour painting in which the sea is not merely a backdrop but the living, breathing heart of the imagery.
The Major Arcana are extraordinary in their originality: The World (XXI) is a serene mermaid encircled by a wreath of fish, floating in a sunlit blue sea with coral and sea anemones below. Judgement (XX) shows three figures — two women and a man — wading into the ocean together, watched over by a winged angel-child above the waves. The Sun (XIX) is a magnificent ocean sunfish (Mola mola) rising in golden light above a sea turtle and coral reef. The Moon (XVIII) is a crescent moon hanging over dark ocean waves, with a red lobster crawling on the shore below. The Star (XVII) is a mermaid sitting on a moonlit rock, gazing up at a blazing star in a deep blue night sky. The Tower (XVI) is a red-and-white striped lighthouse battered by crashing white waves in a storm.
The Minor Arcana are equally inventive: the suits are renamed to reflect the oceanic theme — Water (Cups), Fire (Wands), Air (Swords), and Earth (Pentacles). The 8 of Water shows a scuba diver swimming upward through a colony of glowing jellyfish in a deep purple underwater canyon, a crescent moon visible through the surface above. The Queen of Fire is an utterly charming pink axolotl — the Mexican walking fish — clutching a wand and smiling with enormous personality against a warm pink and gold background. The Fool (0) is a young man in swim shorts leaping joyfully from a rocky cliff into the ocean, arms outstretched, purple hydrangeas blooming at his feet.
The card backs are one of the most distinctive in modern tarot: a white ground scattered with irregular blue watercolour fragments — like shards of sea glass or broken ice — in every shade of blue from pale sky to deep navy, with occasional touches of teal. Clean, modern, and unmistakably oceanic. The box is a dark blue-grey watercolour wash with a mermaid gazing out to sea under a starlit sky — one of the most beautiful tarot box designs in recent years.
