Every card features a beautifully drawn cat — or cats — in the role of the traditional tarot figure, rendered in a warm, detailed illustration style with cream and gold card borders that give the deck a timeless, classic feel.
The Major Arcana are a delight: I El Mago (The Magician) is a grey tabby cat in a witch’s hat, seated before a cauldron with a pentagram, candles, and roses — the four suits arranged around him. II La Sacerdotisa (The High Priestess) is a sleek black cat seated between two columns under the phases of the moon, a crystal ball and scrolls before her. III La Emperatriz (The Empress) is a regal white cat crowned with a tiara, seated in a garden with a red heart shield bearing the Venus symbol. IV El Emperador (The Emperor) is a magnificent fluffy white Persian cat seated on an ornate throne before a fireplace, holding a sceptre and a ball of yarn. V El Sumo Sacerdote (The Hierophant) is a large grey tabby seated on an open book before classical columns, a quill pen beside him. VI Los Amantes (The Lovers) is two cats — a tabby and a calico — sitting together under a blazing golden sun in an apple orchard. VII El Carro (The Chariot) is a white cat pulling a chariot before a golden castle. VIII La Fuerza (Strength) is a tabby cat wearing a flower crown, seated calmly in a meadow with a small mouse at her feet. IX El Ermitaño (The Hermit) is a black cat sitting in a cardboard box with a lantern, gazing out of a moonlit window at a bookshelf. X La Rueda de la Fortuna (Wheel of Fortune) is a tuxedo cat perched atop a great spinning wheel above flames and clouds. XI La Justicia (Justice) is a grey cat seated before red curtains, holding golden scales. XII El Colgado (The Hanged Man) is a tuxedo cat hanging upside down from a tree branch by a yarn string, a ball of red wool below. XX El Juicio (Judgement) is a large tabby cat with a red bow tie, seated in clouds between two golden trumpets, two smaller cats looking up at him adoringly.
The card backs are one of the most striking in any cat tarot: matte black with an elaborate gold baroque acanthus scroll design, two white cat skull motifs (one at top, one at bottom), and moon phase symbols and stars scattered throughout — gothic, elegant, and unmistakably feline. The box is a warm terracotta-brown with gold art nouveau borders, the title El Tarot de los Gatos in gold serif type, and three cats — white, black, and tabby — seated in a moonlit arch on the front. The back of the box shows the Wheel of Fortune and Judgement cats, with five sample cards (La Estrella, Seis de Copas, a court card, Cuatro de Bastos, Cinco de Oros) and a QR code for the digital guidebook.
Includes an 80-page illustrated guidebook with keywords and meanings for all 78 cards, upright and reversed, in Spanish.
